  • Standing monthly charges are not included; charging losses (energy that does not reach the battery) are not included either at home or at a station.

Frequently asked questions

Which is cheaper — charging an EV at home or at a station? ▾

As of 2026-10-22, charging 15 kWh a day at night, a kWh at home costs about €0.103/kWh, at a public AC station €0.30/kWh and at a DC station €0.36/kWh (incl. VAT). Over a month (450 kWh) that would be €46.46 at home, €135.00 at AC stations and €162.00 at DC stations. The home price is the exchange price, the distribution price of the ESO “Standartinis (standard), two time zones” tariff plan, the PSO levy and VAT; the supplier’s margin is not included — enter your own supplier’s margin, which depends on your contract.

How much does 100 km cost in an EV? ▾

With a car using 17 kWh/100 km, 100 km costs about €1.76 charging at home, €5.10 at AC stations and €6.12 at DC stations. Real-world consumption is higher in winter: according to research by the US company Recurrent, EVs keep about 78% of their usual range at around 0 °C.

Can an EV be charged from a household socket? ▾

It can, but ESO says that this is slow and unsuitable for regular charging. By ESO’s own example, 2.3–3.68 kW charges a 40 kWh battery in 11.5–18.5 hours, while a wallbox (3.68–22.08 kW) takes 6.5–11.5 hours. If you charge at home more than once a week, ESO recommends installing a wallbox. Source: https://www.eso.lt/namams/elektra/kitos-paslaugos/elektromobiliu-ikrovimas/individualiam-namui/3336

Is a home charger worth installing? ▾

On this calculation, charging at home instead of at a public AC station would save you about €88.54 a month. The payback depends on the price of the charger and its installation, and on whether the contracted capacity has to be increased. ESO recommends an 11 kW smart charger; where the contracted capacity is below 11 kW, it recommends increasing it. From 2026, increasing capacity where the connection point is within 100 m costs €100.52 per kW incl. VAT (with a 50 % rebate for a registered building). Why are monthly charges left out? ▾

The standing charges of a supplier and an ESO plan (for example €3.00 a month on the “Namai” plan, or €1.00 per kW of contracted capacity on “Efektyvus”) are paid with or without an EV, so they do not affect the charging price. Only what depends on the kWh charged is counted. If you increase the contracted capacity for an EV, the “Efektyvus” charge goes up.
